Ya, I've heard voice actors don't get paid all too well. Plus, in order to be making income, they need to land a part in a show. It's not like movies where you may get signed on for multiple at a time and you're set. Plus, movies make more money than TV shows, and so do the actors.
Yeah, Tera has said before that voice overs don't paid all that much per recording, especially compared live action work. Even with how busy they all are, part of their income is made up from attending media events such as this and selling swag. One of the reasons people are not use to having to pay for autographs at other, older and larger cons, is because they probably cover a lot of the guests costs for their stay. Being a first year con, they have yet to fully establish the revenue to do something like that.
Actually, that is the reasoning behind a lot of the things they have and have not done so far, the cost of things. I tell you what though, the way things are turning out, this is already a massively successful con. It will still be a test to see how it all comes together logistically. We are looking at, what, probably over 900 attendees? This is definitely going to be on the larger end of what some might consider a small convention, and will only continue to grow.
Those running this con are learning a lot and will continue to learn the do's and don't of running a con. You can be certain that they will get the wrinkles worked out come next year and we will see a convention that will be even bigger, better, and even more fun, than I know this one will be, for everypony.
