I'm not staff or anything, i'm just curious to see how much in ticket sales Everfree would make if they were able to re-open sales if they added an additional hotel to the event, thus increasing space allowed. I would think they would consider the Clarion as it is within walking distance from the Holiday Inn, and they offer meeting space as well.

Any number of additional sales in the three digit bracket times $35 would likely cover whatever cost it would be for additional space...Just a guess though. I'm not familiar with all the costs and prep that go into a convention, so i'm no expert, but i thought throwing out a number in sales at the organizers might make a difference. *shrugs*

What do YOU think?

As nice as that sounds, it might be too late in the game to pull off a stunt like that. Hotels need more than a three month notice for large events, to insure they don't overlap with another, not to mention that if we make use of their conference rooms, they expect people to also stay in the guest rooms. Not knowing just how many people to account for, the con could take a big loss booking a second venue, not to mention trying to keep things organized between two could lead to disaster.

I know it is disappointing and people are upset, we are very sorry not everyone that wanted to attend will be able to join us this year, but please try to accept things for what they are and that there is little that can practically be done to accommodate more guests. One thing we do not want to do is create false hope for those that missed out.

Let us wish for this year to be the best it can and look forward to the next being even bigger and better.

I am aware that the idea would be unlikely but there's nothing wrong with getting a ballpark idea.

Both Sakura Con and Steam Con have had their conventions between two hotels for many years before Sakura Con moved to the WSCTC and Steam Con moved to Bellevue. So i certainly think "leading to disaster" is a bit much.

I would think the chance of profit would greatly outweigh the chance of a "big loss" for Everfree. I would guess they could probably at least double attendance, especially since we have a good number of months ahead of us, and also taking into consideration at door purchases. Consider that Sakura Con had 20,000+ in attendees this year, and compare that to the 500 sold for Everfree.

Nothing ever changes unless you try! Even if you try and fail, at least you know you tried. And if not, at least we will all better prepare for next year! ;)

Perhaps if we had a further year to plan, it might be feasible to divide between two hotels.

Unfortunately, it's not quite so easy to double our numbers or move around. Getting another hotel this late in the game would be prohibitively expensive (As stated above, hotels lower their event rates based on a certain number of hotel rooms allotted to be purchased). Not to mention increasing staff, increased event planning, coordination between sites, and other logistics, all within two months.

The people working on this convention aren't being paid, and most of us are holding down another job (Trust me, working on this con is a full time job in and of itself). In addition, we of the board would be hesitant to "try and fail" because if anything goes wrong, we're financially responsible for everything. The situation is somewhat more complicated than it seems (Putting it mildly).

If this was true, don't you think they would have booked a bigger venue and gambled on large attendance in the first place? :|

While I’m all for hoping they decide to say “You know what lets through caution to the wind and just go all out on this” Sadlly I don’t think we will have that happen, and understandably to it dose take an enormous amount of effort to put this together. Although thinking on it all they need to do is post on kickstarter or maybe EQD and most of the staffing problems and finance risks would disappear  .

The best possible thing imo is if it's made possible to cancel/return badges. Some people who have already paid will not be able to attend. Sure the con organizers lose nothing in the current arrangement, but think of the dealers/artists. Think of the swag that will go unsold. Won't somebody think of the swag.

San Diego Comic Con are having their cancelled badge resale tomorrow, so it's not unheard-of.

There's still time!

The people putting this con on aren't pulling money out of thin air. It's coming out of their own pocket, at least initially. So this 'big loss' that you reference wouldn't be to some nameless entity. It'd seriously screw up the personal lives and finances of folks such as RoyGBiv. I would rather not attend this year and go next year while knowing this con was all daisies then have them go through heck putting together something more confusing, having it backfire and partially ruin them, all so I could be a selfish nilly and creep Tabitha St. Germain out with my stares.

Nah, they are a first year con. I understand it's a tough balancing act.
